I am a former academic and relative late-comer to graphic design. In 2020, I’d finished a PhD, admitted I hated the academy, and realized that COVID would be putting any future-planning on hold when I was invited to work on a design project: my college writing instructor friend was starting a publication for student writing and activism and thought I would understand her vision. Collaborating with her was way more rewarding than anything I'd done in graduate school! After we put out the first issue, I began taking remote classes in graphic design (again, thank you COVID), where I discovered I loved type, and I've been falling down that rabbit hole ever since.

Besides typefaces, my favorite thing is to design for texts. Designing a book or a periodical piece feels like an act of love toward the writer; I want them to look at the design and feel seen and heard.
